Battery Booster Program
– What We Know So Far

⚠ Note: The Battery Booster Program is a Federal Labor election promise and is not guaranteed to proceed unless the Labor Government is re-elected.

βœ… What Is the Battery Booster Program?

The Battery Booster Program is a proposed federal initiative aimed at making home battery systems more affordable for Australian households. Announced by the Albanese Labor Government, the program is designed to:

  • Provide a 30% discount on the upfront cost of purchasing a home battery for households with rooftop solar.

  • Support the installation of 50,000 household batteries across Australia.

  • Commence from 1 July 2025, pending Labor’s re-election.

The program will be delivered through the existing Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)

πŸ’° How Much Will You Save?

  • Rebate value: 30% off the cost of a home battery system

  • Annual savings:

    • Households with existing solar adding a battery could save up to $1,100 per year.

    • Households installing both solar and a battery could save up to $2,300 per year.

These savings represent up to 90% of a typical family’s electricity bill

🏠 Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the rebate:

  • You must own your home.

  • The battery system must be installed by a Clean Energy Council (CEC)-accredited installer (like SunStak).

  • The battery must be connected to a new or existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system.

  • The system must be grid-connected.

  • Rentals and off-grid homes are likely excluded.

Batteries installed before 1 July 2025 will not be eligible for the rebate.

πŸ”‹ Why Add a Battery?

Adding a battery to your solar setup can:

  • Reduce your power bills even further.

  • Provide energy security during outages.

  • Shift your usage away from expensive peak times.

  • Improve your solar system’s return on investment.

  • Open up future opportunities like Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).

⏳ What’s the Timeline?

  • Program starts: 1 July 2025 (if Labor is re-elected).

  • Final details: Rebate values and application processes are still pending.
