What is the NSW Government Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS)?
The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) is an innovative initiative by the NSW Government aimed at reducing electricity demand during peak periods. By incentivising households and businesses to lower their energy consumption at critical times, the scheme helps to stabilise the grid, reduce electricity costs, and enhance overall energy security.
Financial Incentives
Starting from 1 November 2024, the PDRS will provide attractive financial incentives for installing residential battery storage systems. Here’s how you can benefit:
Up to $2400 Off Battery Installation: Receive between $1600 and $2400 off the upfront installation costs of a battery for homes and businesses with existing solar, depending on the battery size.
VPP Connection Incentives: Earn between $250 and $400 for connecting your battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This incentive is available twice, a minimum of three years apart.
Incentives for New Solar Installations: For homes and businesses without solar, the incentive can be included in quotes for new solar and battery system installations.
How Does It Benefit You?
Financial Savings: Participants can collectively save around $1.2 billion on electricity bills between 2022 and 2040.
Enhanced Energy Efficiency: Adopt energy-efficient technologies and maximise the use of the solar energy you generate.
Support for Renewable Energy: Help reduce reliance on fossil fuels during peak demand periods and support NSW's goal of cutting emissions by 70% by 2035 and achieving net zero by 2050.
Grid Stability: Contribute to a more stable and reliable electricity grid, reducing the risk of power outages.
